NAKSHA is a home grown brand working with artisans right from weavers to karigars, mainly promoting the craftsmanship of Bengal.
We create artistic six yards in hand woven silks and tussar fabrics only. These fabrics are hand woven in pit looms, colour dyed and then block printed, batik or hand embroidered.
With 28 years of corporate life adorning a saree every morning, I realised my heart belongs to a place where I am immersed in designs, colours, motifs and everything else revolving around sarees. This desire propelled watching my domestic helper make simple needle art in her cotton saree at her leisure. She adorns this flair and had picked up this art from her mother. I encouraged her to make additional revenues by commercialising this talent.
She with great interest made some lovely motifs on one of my cotton sarees and thus we collaborated as it gathered huge applauds. The team grew and I feel satisfied to have been socially supportive to the society.
This small home grown unit, NAKSHA, has such small teams supporting all activities to complete a saree right from dying stage upto the shelf.
Drapping such handmade six yards has always been my style statement and I feel the versatility of this piece of clothing makes it a global favourite. I did take a bold decision to stepout of the regular 9 to 5 shoes and create a brand which resonates with my personality and also brings a sense of confidence to anyone related to it.
Today we are proud to say that we use our own blocks and various accessories and techniques to bring about a new look to the printed silks. We have also specialised in hand batik techniques coming up with new motifs and geometrical patterns through wax resistant methods.
Some of the hand dyed tussar silks are hand embroidered in kantha stitch. The motifs are exclusively drawn by our team making it our USP. Other than the regular floral patterns called (alpana) we have conceptualized it in flora and fauna and other geometrical motifs.
With its presence over the past few years we have already been able to reach out to women pan India and have received a lot of love and appreciation for our products. We are proud of each of our creations as each piece is unique by itself.
